BOLD® Wins NARUC Innovation Award

On November 15th, the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) presented BOLD® with its 2017 Utility Industry Innovation in Electricity award. Wade Smith, SVP Grid Development, accepted the award.

This recognition of BOLD® is the direct result of the hard work and innovating spirit of the many employees who have played a role in developing, refining and testing the design,” said Smith. “I know they are all proud to see BOLD® showcased as a cutting edge technology that can solve many of the transmission project challenges faced by regulators and policy makers today.”

The award is the fourth received by the BOLD® team in 2017. The others are:

  • 2017 Edison Award from EEI
  • 2017 CIGRE/KEPCO International Design Award
  • 2017 Top Forty Innovators from Public Utilities Fortnightly awarded to Jeff Fleeman managing director, Transmission Business Development, for his work with the team in developing BOLD® from whiteboard concept to the first transformational line design the industry has seen in nearly 50 years.

The recognition program, “Innovation Awards: Promoting Innovation among Utility Regulatory Policy and Utilities,” honors and promotes the work of NARUC members and utility innovators for solutions to regulatory issues. This is the first year NARUC has presented their Utility Industry Innovation awards.

BOLD® (Breakthrough Overhead Line Design) has earned another prestigious award, the grand prize in the “International Tower Design Award” from CIGRE/KEPCO. The competition, sponsored by CIGRE Korea and the Korea Electric Power Company (KEPCO), was held in Seoul, South Korea, during the CIGRE semi-annual meetings.
